26-Mar: Concrete on the floor
Today the floor concrete was poured. All finished in under four hours, looks great, but bit of a shame to cover up the beauty of the underfloor heating pipe spaghetti.
20-Mar: Under Floor Heating pipes
A squad of 4 guys installed the pipework for the underfloor heating, which is all hooked up to the two manifolds and under pressure test for a good few days (they passed with flying colours).
>19-Mar: Laying the insulation
It took a team effort to collect and install all the 140mm and 150mm donated insulation from storage and piece it together on the subfloor. Any remaining gaps were then foam filled to provide an even and constant surface for the UFH pipes to lay on. Once the insulation was installed, a membrane was laid over it to provided a barrier to prevent the concrete slurry from finding it's way into any cracks.
09-Mar: Shed Hike - Fetternear/Kemnay
A welcome diversion to working on the new Shed, six young chaps and a dog went on our monthly Shed Hike, led by Andy Martin. The route started outside Kemnay, taking us through the Fetternear estate, then back into Kemnay for a coffee and bite to eat over a blether in the cafe.
March: We welcomed two new members to the Midmar Men's Shed
25-Feb: Soffits, Insulation and Windows
more floor insulation was laid at the south east end of the building. The soffits were finished up at the front, and also around the 'Shed by the Shed' around the back where the dust extraction system will be installed.
The final window was also installed today (wrong size delivered previously), and more membrane was stapled on around the windows.
01-Jan: Donation from The Echt Players
We were very fortunate to have received a generous donation from the the Echt Players as a share of the profits from the Christmas Panto (Cinderella). Truly grateful.
2025:
11-Dec: Fitted a few more roof sheets
while the weather was fine and calm we installed a few more roof sheets, as well as progressing the installation of the soffits. We also brought a couple of wall panels in to dry out before modifying them to be used on the lean-to which will house the dust extraction system.
05-Dec: Hosting the Community Café
Every month there is a community café in the village hall. We dusted off our baking skills(?) to put on a spread to go with the tea and coffee.
02-Dec: Profile Roof sheets installed
A fairly calm sunny day was the ideal conditions to get on with installing the profile steel roof panels. One side of the roof completed.
10-Nov: Prepping and starting installation of the Fascia boards and Soffits
We now have an indoor space to work! apart from the fascia and soffits (ventilation slots, light sanding and insect mesh over the ventilation slots), the work to reshape the window openings in the wall panels continues.
We also now have some site power and light in the new Shed, which means we are not restricted to daylight hours to work inside the space.
22-Oct: Fixing the sarking boards in place
Another few days on the roof were spent fixing the sarking boards in place, prior to laying and securing the the roof felt, which was completed just before winter arrived ....
25-Sept: Roof Trusses getting installed
The roof trusses were delivered during the month, and it was now time to install them. A couple of full days lifting them and securing them in place. And then all the sarking boards arrived, and needed to be shifted to a suitable storage spot.
09-Sept: Walls going Up
The walls for the new Shed were erected today, with a great effort by the Shedders.
05-Sept: The wall plate is installed, roof trusses were delivered
The wall plate was installed around the whole perimeter and the internal wall.
04-Sept: Roof trusses delivered
The roof trusses were delivered in the afternoon, as well as a separate delivery of timber for the wall plates.
01-Sept: Shed Walk
it was a shaping up to be a fairly grim day, with low cloud and rain showers, so instead of walking the Hill of Fare ridge from end-to-end, we invoked Plan-B and walked around Learney hill clockwise.
01-Aug on: Wall panel modifications
Several weeks during August were spent making modifications to the wall panels to fit our requirements. Excess panels were deconstructed to reuse the timber for other requirements.
31-Jul: Collect several loads of donated wood and PIR insulation from a local company.
17-Jul: HOT DAY. Second pour of concrete for the sub-floor
Yes, it was a very warm day. Not only that, the screeder that we had hired did not work, so we had to manualatic the largest area requiring screeding. The hose was also out to irrigate the concrete so that it did not dry out too quickly.
07-Jul: Install DPM, and steel mesh
In preparation for the second pour of concrete. All the shuttering had been removed previously, and the expansion joints installed.
25-Jun: First pour of concrete
All hands on deck to shift, level and screed the concrete over half of the sub-floor.
10-12 Jun: Installing DPM, steel mesh and shuttering
All in preparation for the first pour of concrete
06-Jun: Steel mesh moved to site
In preparation for laying the DPM and steel mesh, the mesh was moved from outside the Shed to adjacent to the new foundations. Good early morning workout ...
02-Jun: Shed Walk along the Gordon Way
Three Shedders walked 11.7km along the Gordon Way. Starting the walk near Keig and finishing at the Bennachie Visitor Centre. Clear day with great views of Aberdeenshire.
23-May: Wall panels checked
a group of 5 shedders unstacked, measured and restacked the 150mm wall panels to assess what alterations may be required. A few sore muscles the next day. See pictures here
22-May: Midmar Paths Mower lives!
After some fairly major mechanical work the lawn tractor that was donated has been resurrected and put into use cutting a couple of the community paths.
14-May: Wall panels arrive
Thanks to Miller Plant Ltd. our wall panels arrived onsite today. 5 stacks from Kintore delivered by low-loader. See pictures here
29-Mar: Learig Concert
The Learig Amateur Orchestra held a concert, with profits being shared between TWO Men's Sheds. It was a great evening at the Mannofield Church.
